With a little over one week until Thanksgiving, the Elk Grove Food Bank (EGFB) received several large donations today as part of their annual Turkey Drive.

Among the donations received by the EGFB were a $3,000 donation from Wal Mart, a $1,000 donation from Elk Grove Council Member Steve Detrick and 100 turkeys from the family of Jerry and Shelly Braxmeyer.

With just a few more days until Thanksgiving, EGFB Executive Director Marie Jachino noted that the gifts of cash and turkeys will serve many of their clients who were uncertain of having a holiday meal for their families.

"The Food Bank relies on the generosity of the community to support our mission, and we are fortunate to receive gifts from so many of our supporters," Jachino said. "Today struck me as a true reflection of the spirit of the season with the presence of our community leaders and representatives from Wal Mart."

Jachino noted that the food bank has seen a 40 percent increase in the clients they serve over the last two years. "The gift was a godsend for those less fortunate in our community," she added.
