With this week's announcement by Sacramento County District Attorney Jan Scully that she will not seek another term in 2014, at least one person has formally announced their intention today to succeed Scully.

In a press release issued this morning, Deputy District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announced her candidacy for District Attorney of Sacramento County. Schubert said she is doing so at the encouragement of Scully as well as former Sacramento County sheriff John McGinness and current sheriff Scott Jones.

“The District Attorney’s job is to uphold the law, protect the community and stand up for victims," Shubert said. "As Sacramento County’s next District Attorney I will never waiver from those responsibilities”

Schubert is a graduate of Saint Mary’s College of California and the University of San Francisco School of Law. She has served as a Deputy District Attorney since 1990, initially in Contra Costa and Solano counties and, since 1996, in Sacramento County where she currently supervises the special sssault and child abuse unit.
