An Elk Grove Police officer was aided by two citizen's late Friday afternoon after they witnessed a suspect who had grabbed the officer's service weapon.

According to police reports, the officer stopped 38-year old bicyclist Daevon George of Elk Grove near Elk Grove-Florin Road and Vintage Park Drive for a vehicle code violation. Upon contact, the suspect refused to comply with the officer's instructions, broke free and was able to grab the officer's holstered handgun.

The officer was able to retain his weapon and wrestled George to the ground. Two citizens passing by assisted the officer in pinning the suspect to the ground. 

George was arrested and taken to the county jail where he remains in custody on a $100,000 bail. The officer sustained a minor cut but did not require medical treatment.

I haven't heard of a tussle like that since the female police officer got pushed into the duck pond at Elk Grove Regional Park during the Western Festival two years ago! Quack Quack...
