Today Elk Grove News has initiated a new system that we hope will help ensure continued coverage of stories that our readers have told us they value.

Like many businesses, particularly internet-based news organizations, we have grappled with how to adequately cover news, provide a valuable services to our loyal readers and start to cover cost associated with news gathering. Although EGN has always operated on a very lien basis, there are several inescapable cost, most notably the cost of gasoline, that needs to be addressed.

To that end, after much deliberation, we believe we have found a Solomon-type solution.

Current content, up to about two weeks in age, will continue to be available for free. Our research has shown we have hundreds of loyal readers who make a visit to EGN a part of their daily routine. For those readers, this change should not affect you.

We have found that our site is often used as a research vessel and our archives of over 3,500 stories over the last five years is frequently assessed. We believe this archive of information is of value.

So to help cover our cost and not adversely affect our longtime loyal readers, we decided to institute a nominal archival subscription fee.

We certainly hope our readers understand this move and of course knowing our readers, we fully expect and welcome to hear what your thoughts are on this matter.

It appears there is a block on the current news and I am taken to the subscribe page. The problem being that it does not appear to be a secure page and unsafe to enter a credit card number. I don't think it is my computer. Ron
