When the Elk Grove Water District meets next Wednesday, they will review a commissioned study that found the district should impose rate increases over the next several years with the first increase next January.

The district, which serves portions of Elk Grove east of Highway 99, has not raised rates in three years. However prior to that, the district raised rates by 32, 20 and 12 percent in 2007, 2008 and 2009 respectively.

In a letter to ratepayers district general manager Mark Madison said Willdan Financial Services conducted an extensive five year forward looking analysis of the district finances to determine future water rates. Madison did not say what the anticipated future increased would be.

Madison letter said "Understandably, rate adjustments are rarely desired and we appreciate the financial constraints facing our customers."

The meeting will be held this coming Wednesday at Cosumnes Community Services District boardroom at 8820 Elk Grove Blvd and will start at 6 p.m.

It's getting expensive to live in Elk Grove and it has nothing to offer but stores and generic neighborhood parks. The average water bill in Davis is $35/mo and they are complaining about a 25% rate hike. The minimum water charge by EGWD is about $55/mo and I will bet you dollars to donuts it's going up big time and we will pay for those past three years of no rate increase. Kicking the can down the road and it ends up in our *ss.
