Team Announces Sacramento All-Star Roster, MLS Reserve Team and Soccer Spirit Award
| May
28, 2013 | Sacramento Professional Soccer, LLC, (Sac Pro Soccer) today
announced new details about the team’s upcoming Sacramento Soccer Day,
including the match-up for game one of the event and the team’s new
soccer spirit award, at a press conference at Raley Field.
Sacramento
Soccer Day will take place July 18, 2013 at Raley Field and feature two
soccer matches, one between the Sacramento All-Stars and an MLS Reserve
Team, followed by a match between Mexico’s Dorados de Sinaloa and the
European Premier League’s (EPL) Norwich City Football Club (Norwich
City). This will mark the first time in history that an EPL team has
played in Sacramento. The MLS Reserve Team will be made up in part of
players from the San Jose Earthquakes.
The
Sacramento All-Stars is a team made up of the best-of-the-best from the
Sacramento region. Players will be a mixture of professional and
premier college players, nationally renowned recruits and prospects and
top amateurs.
“Sacramento
Soccer Day is our way of kicking off a series of exhibition matches
during 2013 involving various high profile soccer teams, which will lead
us into our inaugural season of 2014,” said Warren Smith, president of
Sac Pro Soccer. “The high-quality event will not only be fun for the
entire community, but will speak volumes about the impact soccer has had
in the Greater Sacramento Area. This is the quality the community and
soccer fans can expect from our organization.”
In
between the matches being played during Sacramento Soccer Day, Smith
will announce the official team name, color palette, shield and scarf of
the Sac Pro Soccer team, which are currently being selected during a
three-month, three-part naming contest involving the Sacramento
community and soccer fans. The naming contest is being sponsored by
Supercuts.
During
Sacramento Soccer Day, Smith will also be recognizing a recipient of
the Sac Pro Soccer Spirit Award. This award will be presented to a new
recipient each year during Sacramento Soccer Day. Various criteria will
be considered when selecting a recipient, including the following: the
individual will best embody the sport of soccer; the individual will
inspire development on and off the field; the individual will instill a
sense of excellence that is used to unite, grow and strengthen others,
as well as overcome adversity or a challenging circumstance.
“Sacramento
Soccer Day will be a premium celebration of the rich history and bright
future soccer has here in Sacramento,” Jose Reynoso, director of
community outreach for Sac Pro Soccer said. “The Sac Pro Soccer Spirit Award
is our way of honoring some of the community members who have a
long-standing commitment to soccer in Sacramento and to bettering the
place where we live, work and play.”
General
public ticket sales for Sacramento Soccer Day begin today, May 28. Soccer fans can purchase tickets by visiting the Raley Field box
office or online at Ticketmaster.com.
Following
the press conference, Sac Pro Soccer’s sponsor, Supercuts, held a
soccer shootout with members of the media, which benefitted Street
Soccer Sacramento. Supercuts donated $25 for every goal made to the
organization. Supercuts has been supporting Sac Pro Soccer as the team
connects with the community and coordinates details for Sacramento
Soccer Day.

Where is Gary Davis and Randy Starbuck?
...and Sacramento...NOT Elk Grove?
....I can't even imagine this.
Now maybe Davis and his musketeers will figure out that no one outside the dais takes this endeavor of MLS in Elk grove seriously.
That would save us all a lot of money and allow us a modicum of self respect from our neighboring communities.
I can't envision a press release announcing New York and Elk Grove being the latest expansion franchises in MLS.
I don't understand our city council thinking MLS would ever come to EG, and if it did, they would take "Sacramento" as their home, not Elk Grove. Note the Sacramento River Cats, actually based in West Sacramento as a prime example.
