Framed by ideal weather, Elk Grove celebrated its well noted ethnic diversity today at the second annual Multi-Cultural Festival.

Held at the Elk Grove Regional Park, the festival hosted a variety of live entertainment representing the city's various ethnic groups. On one stage festival-goers were treated to dancers performing everything from square to Polynesian dancing while the other stage hosted live music performances ranging from gospel to Latin rock.

Along with the entertainment, festival goers also had a wide variety of food choices from several vendors and food trucks. Also on hand were dozens of exhibitors representing a wide range of political, religious, governmental, charitable and business organizations.

According to Elk Grove Police Department Public Information Officer Christopher Trim, it is estimated the festival will have drawn over 6,000 visitors during its eight hour run.

"It has been a huge turnout," he said.

Organized by the city's Multi Cultural Committee, the festival is meant to accentuate Elk Grove's ethnically diverse, yet integrated neighborhoods.

Aside from planning the festival and all the accompanying logistical challenges, the Multi-Cultural Committee also staffed a booth that asked people to sign a diversity pledge. One of the committee members attending the booth was Marie Mertz who beamed with pride on this year's attendance and success of the festival.

"We are extremely happy," Mertz said. "I hope every year the festival gets bigger and better."
