Elk Grove Planning Commissioner Nancy Chaires, who is running for a position on the Elk Grove City Council, announced the launch of her campaign's website and Facebook page today.

A veteran planning commissioner, Chaires is seeking to fill the city's District Four seat currently held by Robert Trigg, who was appointed to fill the vacancy created when Gary Davis was elected mayor and vacated the seat. At the time of his appointment,Trigg said he would only occupy the seat until the term ends in December 2014.

Chaires is the only candidate to have offically entered the race to date. If elected, Chaires would be only the second female to serve as a council member since the city's 2000 incorporation.

I wish Nancy the best of luck. She seems to be hard working, smart and honest enough. We can only hope if she gets elected that she stays independent in her thought and not drunken with power like those elected before her.

I agree with you Jill, unfortunately the connections to Davis and Cooper are very "transparent" so I see a lot of 3-2 votes in our cities future. Now if you approve of the way those two have led our fine city then this will be an ideal situation. Can't wait to see everyone wearing Nancy stickers around town and a good old fashion Facebook rally.

From her website:

"Protect Elk Grove’s safety and quality of life
Maintain high standards of government transparency and accountability
Enhance the city’s reputation as the best place to live, work and do business in the Sacramento area"

All feel-good, sound-good promises that cannot be tied down or quantified. We hear these from everyone at election time, but does anyone question, ask for clarification, or evaluate past performance before checking the box? Nope, they get a free pass and run again.

While it is very early in the campaign and there are most likely other candidates to come forward and I, for one, will be viewing planning meetings to get an exact feel of exactly where Ms. Chaires stands on issues important to me and this community. Also to see if she is going to be on the receiving end of Mr. Moores contributions as our present city council seems to be. My district has been without an active council person for the last year...except in name only. May have saved the city $500,000 in an election, but at what end cost? Much more than that I believe. Ignorance is not always "bliss."
