Elk Grove Police Seek Assistance in Fatal Pedestrian Hit and Run

On October 21, 2013 at 2:09 a.m., Elk Grove Police officers responded to the area of E. Stockton Blvd. and Sheldon Road regarding a female who had been sitting on a curb for several hours. Officers discovered an unresponsive 62-year-old female lying in the northbound lane of traffic on E. Stockton Blvd.

Officers and medical personnel were unable to revive the woman who was pronounced dead at the scene. The identification of the deceased will be made by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

Based on the nature of the injuries the victim sustained, investigators believe that she was struck and run over by a vehicle that was traveling northbound on E. Stockton Boulevard. The vehicle involved in the collision fled the scene and investigators currently do not have a description of the vehicle or the driver involved.

Anyone with information regarding this hit and run collision is asked to call the Elk Grove Police Department Traffic Bureau at (916) 478-8148 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357). Callers to Crime Alert can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.00. Tips can also be sent via SMS text message by entering CRIMES (274637) on a cell phone, followed by Tip732 (agency identification number) and the message.

This was only one of three pedestrian deaths, yes, DEATHS that happened within the same twelve hour period last week.
This is carnage that would garner far more attention had it been three dead thrown from an automobile.
Our pedestrian versus auto annual death rate is nearly twice that of the 9/11 tragedy (5,000 versus 3,000.)
