Following a presentation at last Wednesday night's city council meeting, the City of Elk Grove has decided to team with Cropmobster to help fight local hunger.

Cropmobster, a Sonoma County-based non governmental organization seeks to reduce hunger and waste of food by linking those in need with who have excess inventory. The service uses the internet and social media to match donors with recipients.

To facilitate the exchanges locally, the city and Cropmobster have created a new site, Elk Grove Community Exchange.

"I see the Elk Grove Community Exchange as a great opportunity to help us meet this challenge. It will help us further connect with gardeners and farmers and grow our network of food gleaners," Elk Grove Food Bank Director Marie Jachino said. "We are excited to use this platform to broadcast alerts, make our needs visible, further engage the community and share stories of impact.”

Make sure you sign up on the website http://elkgrove.cropmobster.com and/or social media to send and receive alerts. You can do it from any computer or smart phone in a few seconds.

I see our local leaders are trying to politicize this for their own personal benefit. Shameful.

It is a good project and a worthy cause. Unfortunate the Mayor has to politicize the matter by mugging for the camera. It would have been much better if a neutral non-polarizing public figure such as Ms. Jachino had been the one to make the video.

I agree with shrimp boy.

This is a good thing and the town idiots are still finding something to complain about.

Anon 18:51....I find the use of that word very offensive and your comment should be removed.

and he's hawking his coffee on the web site too.

Very unprofessional for a Mayor to be using our city web site for his own private business advertising.....actually dishonest!

Well, why am I not surprised...Mayor Davis already has his business listed on the city web site. I doubt that clay dirt cares that it's "PREMIUM Coffee Grounds." Those words only show that he is using it for his own personal benefit/gain! The man has no shame.......

News flash! News flash! News flash! Coffee grounds are good for veggie gardens! Starbucks and It's a Grind give away coffee grinds too. Are you going to complain about them too?

People are becoming tired of the city electeds taking credit for everything positive that occurs here (even if they had no hand in making it happen)and taking no responsibility for anything that goes sideways in this city even though they are solely responsible for it.

This is why people complain. They have a right to and they generally are spot on with their criticism. So rolls those coffee grounds up and smoke 'em.

Anon 23:13...Perhaps it would be a good idea to check out the city web site and then tell me it's not about our Mayor advertising his Grace Coffees on the city web site.

This would be enough to feed the Elk Grove Cow Elks to that graze on this site for day or two.

Undoubtedly this service is a great benefit to the people of Elk Grove who are in need of assistance.

As for Mayor Davis, he needs to stay out of its way. Whether you are a supporter of the mayor or not, it is obvious by placing himself in this worthy NGO program from the start, he has effectively politicized it.

The measure of a true leader is the ability to do the right thing, especially when no one is looking. Well people are looking and from the perspective of many people, he is not doing the right thing. If the mayor wants this beneficial project to be successful and non-political, he needs quietly extricate himself from the whole project.

Supporter of the mayor or not, that would be a true measure of his leadership ability.

The Captain is so right.

The mayor is way out of bounds here. The man has no integrity.

I don't see anywhere on the city of Elk Grove's website where Grace Roasters is listed or advertised as alluded to above.

If so, exactly where is it?

Cropmonbster is not a city owned website and it appears they are asking for businesses to post what they can contribute.

I couldn't find it on the City website either. However, having said that, it does seem hypocritical at best, and unethical at worst, to use his notice of donation on Cropmobster (stupid name; conjures up the concept of the mafia now controlling and benefitting from donations to the hungry) to tout his personal website for his perpetual electioneering. One presumes that he is paying for that website, but I do find it troy
bling that he uses City logos to promote himself.

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed the resemblance between Mr. Davis and Alfred E. "What? Me Worry?" Newman?

Pardon me, troubling - not troy bling
