A man sustained a traumatic head injury early Thursday morning in what could be best described as a melee.

According to Elk Grove Police, officers responded to the 8900 block of Bertwin Way shortly after 1 a.m. regarding a suspicious person call that had escalated into a fight. Multiple callers reported that approximately 20-30 people were fighting with sticks, brooms and bats.

When officers arrived, they found the 33-year old victim lying in front of a residence with a visible traumatic injury to his head. The vicitim was transported to a local area hospital for emergency medical treatment. 

There is no suspect information at this time.
