This Friday morning the Elk Grove Police Department will be teaming up with law enforcement personnel from Federal, Military, State, County and local agencies for the Northern California Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR). The LETR is the single largest fundraising event benefiting Special Olympics Northern California.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics will start near the intersection of Waterman Road and Elk Grove Boulevard this Friday at 8 a.m. More than 25 employees will participate in the three-mile run to EGPD's main campus located at 8400 Laguna Palms Way
Motorists may experience traffic delays while the run is taking place. Runners will be travelling westbound on Elk Grove Boulevard then northbound on Laguna Springs Drive before turning into the EGPD parking lot. EGPD officers will then transport the torch to Sacramento State and join other regional law enforcement agencies for the final leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run to the State Capital.

The Law Enforcement Wall of Honor and the Opening Ceremonies will begin on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Aggie Stadium on the campus of UC Davis.  The 2015 Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games will feature more than 650 athletes during the two days of competition (Saturday, June 27th and Sunday, June 28th).

Additional information regarding the games can be found at http://www.sonc.org/sports/summer-games.  For information regarding EGPD's involvement in Special Olympics, please contact Problem Oriented Policing Officer Jennifer McCue at (916) 478-8110.
