The Elk Grove City Council will consider a grandfather exemption from the city's new massage ordinance for certain certified massage therapist (CMT) at their regular meeting tomorrow night.

The city enacted a new ordinance in April to streamline massage licensing procedures and to be compliant with new state regulations. Subsequent to this, the Elk Grove Police Department has learned of several instances where it would be difficult for certain long-time special business licensees to continue practicing within the city while coming into compliance with the new regulations.

Several of these providers have been conducting their business legitimately in Elk Grove for years but are unable to provide verification of credentials now required. Many of CMT's were trained prior to enactment of current state regulations and thus would be ineligible to continue to provide their services.

The city is proposing an exemption for these providers if they can show they have held a special license for CMT's for at least five years prior to the recently ordinance change. Wednesday night's meeting is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
