Elk Grove Police Apprehend Suspect Who Drove on Wrong Side of Hwy. 99, Ran Lights

March 24, 2016 |

A Modesto man is being held on multiple charges after he tried evading apprehension in life-threatening driving maneuvers yesterday afternoon.

Shortly after 4 p.m. Elk Grove Police officers attempted to stop 33-year old Michael Peter Oneill (pictured above) for not having license plates on his vehicle. When officers attempted to conduct a vehicle stop, Oneill allegedly did not yield and led officers on a pursuit.

During the pursuit, officers observed that the vehicle was occupied by four to five individuals. Oneill evaded officers by failing to stop for multiple red lights, stop signs and driving against oncoming traffic (northbound) on Highway 99 between Cosumnes River Boulevard and Mack Road in the southbound lanes of traffic.

With the assistance of Saramento Police Air 1, Oneill's vehicle was located on the 7700 block of La Fiesta Drive where the occupants fled on foot. Oneill was located in the backyard of residence in the 7500 block of Sun Faire Lane and did not comply with instructions to surrender and was taken into custody after a K-9 deployment.

Oneill was found to be in possession of narcotics and a records check revealed that he had three active felony warrants out for his arrest. The vehicle that Oneill had been driving was later reported stolen out of Turlock.

Oneill was arrested, cleared for incarceration at a local area hospital, then transported to the main jail. Three passengers in the stolen vehicle were detained by EGPD and CHP.

A subsequent investigation determined that two of the passengers in the vehicle were suspects in a residential burglary and stolen vehicle in the Sacramento County. (SSD case #16-83798). The vehicle stolen by the two suspects was located and recovered in Elk Grove.

Oneill is not eligible for release from the county jail and is scheduled for arraignment tomorrow afternoon.
