Elk Grove Man Arrested on Suspicion of Possessing Blackjack

April 19, 2016 |

An Elk Grove man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a weapon popularly known as a blackjack.

On Friday night Elk Grove Police stopped a car near Babson Drive and Laguna Boulevard for a vehicle code violation. Police detained 26-year old DeVario Sentrez Hood after officers located the blackjack, a heavy metal object encased with leather known more formally as a sap, on the seat where he had been seated.

Hood, who was booked into the county jail and released yesterday, is being charged under California Penal Code 22210, possession of non-firearm deadly weapon. If convicted, Hood could face up to one year in prison.
