Traffic Detours, Closures in Effect For Sunday's Running of the Elk Half Marathon

Elk Grove Police are advising local motorist there will be several detours and street closures tomorrow morning for the Fifth Annual Running of the Elk Half Marathon.

The race start and finish line returns to Longleaf Drive, situated midway between Laguna and Elk Grove Boulevards. Race activities begin at 7:30 am at 8260 Longleaf Drive. Proceeds from the event benefit the Elk Grove Youth Sports Foundation (EGYSF), an Elk Grove non-profit organization created to ensure that all Elk Grove children have an equal opportunity to be involved in sports.

A traffic plan has been created and road closures and detours will be in effect from 6:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Here are the closures for the April 3rd event. (See map below).

  • Longleaf Drive, the start, finish and festival area, will be closed beginning Saturday, April 2.
  • Laguna Springs Drive will be closed to through traffic from 7- 9 a.m. Elk Grove Blvd between Big Horn and Auto Center Drive will be closed from 7-9 a.m.
  • The entire Auto Center Drive area will be closed from 7 -9 a.m.
  • West Stockton Blvd between the Auto Mall and Lent Ranch Parkway will be closed from 7:30-9 a.m.
  • Emerald Vista Drive between Gem Crest and E Stockton will be closed from 7:30-10:30 a.m. Local residents will be allowed access via escort, but should expect delays.
  • Lujan Drive between Emerald Vista Drive and Terra Linda Drive will be closed from 7:30-10:30 a.m. Local residents will be allowed access via escort, but should expect delays.
  • Halverson Drive between Terra Linda Drive and Elk Grove Florin Road will be closed from 7:30-10:30 a.m. Local residents will be allowed access via escort, but should expect delays.
  • Elk Grove Florin Road between Bond Road and Elk Grove Blvd will be closed from 7:30-10:30 a.m. Local residents will be allowed access via escort, but should expect delays. One westbound lane of Elk Grove Blvd will be blocked with the speed limit reduced to 25 mph between Elk Grove Florin Road and the creek trail before Emerald Oak Drive. Residents will be allowed access via Williamson Drive, but should expect delays.
