Opinion - Scott Jones’ Vote in Support of Bigotry

By Bob Irelan, Kendra Lewis & Dan Schmitt | July 27, 2016 |

California’s 7th Congressional District, currently represented by Dr. Ami Bera (D -Elk Grove), is one of the most ethnically diverse districts in the country. The district is made up of people from twenty-six areas of the world, and includes an ancestral alphabet from Arab to West Indian.

Cities within the district like Elk Grove welcome this diversity and continually highlight how it strengthens our community and nation. For example, on August 27, Elk Grove will hold its 5th annual Elk Grove Multicultural Festival where thousands of people will join in celebrating the cultural and religious diversity of the area.

Dr. Bera’s opponent in the 2016 7th Congressional District election is Scott Jones, a candidate who says he’s voting for Donald Trump but not endorsing the Republican presidential nominee. Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary suggests there’s not an iota of difference between the two words. Both words suggest an approval of someone or something.

By voting for Trump in the November 2016 election, Jones will be expressing his approval for bigotry and bullying. When Trump calls for “the registry of Muslims in the United States,” he’s talking about the Muslims in our congressional district who enhance its diverse tapestry. When Trump says, “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems with them. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists,” he’s talking about the Latinos in our congressional district who contribute positively to its cultural and economic fabric. When Trump, attempting to impersonate Asian negotiators he deals with in his daily business mimics, “We want deal,” he’s making fun of the thousands of Asian Americans who reside in our area and are struggling but determined to learn English.

If bigotry doesn’t seem to be the appropriate weapon, Trump resorts to the tactics of an elementary schoolyard bully. When he mocks people with disabilities by gyrating uncontrollably while talking about a physically disabled journalist, he’s mocking thousands of good folks in our congressional district who are, in some way, physically, emotionally, or mentally challenged. When Trump makes disparaging comments about women as he did in reference to Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina, “Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?” he’s demeaning all the grandmothers, the mothers, and the wives who are the backbone of the families residing in the 7th Congressional District.

Congressman Ami Bera embraces the contributions everyone makes to the rich tapestry of our community, regardless of their ethnicity, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. Scott Jones is voting for Donald Trump. Our 7th Congressional District doesn’t need a representative who supports the antithesis of its cultural diversity and human goodness.

It took 3 of you to write this drivel? The short bus will be along to gather you up soon.

You may want to read up on Dr. Bera and election fraud, unless truth scares you. Election fraud is okay compared to the disgusting money trail the Clinton Foundation left in its wake.

While I agree wholeheartedly with your critique of Trump and share your distaste for any endorsement or vote in his favor, would it not be prudent, in a discussion of the respect for diversity, to at least mention that Rep. Bera has failed to stand up against those that commit genocide? Rep. Bera, perhaps due to his close relationship with the Indian government, is the only politician in California that cannot find the moral courage to denounce the Indian government's universally acknowledged genocide of its own citizens. Surely, there is room in this discourse to critique both candidates. http://asmdc.org/members/a09/news-room/press-releases/california-state-assembly-recognizes-anti-sikh-pogroms

Maybe the city can name a park after Bera!

Wow, Ami Bera staff could have written this one themselves if they didn't in fact do so. I would think that a county sheriff knows best about protecting people in this community and to call him bigoted or racist because of his stats on who votes for is pretty off base. Journalism is dead if this is what you call journalism it's more an editorial comment written by a liberal left-wing democratic supporter.

Very true Rjgnoe. A quick Google search reveals the authors are associated with a local Democrat club

Lol wow, okay. More regurgitated junk about how Trump is a racist. I'll just list a couple of things:

1. Trump did not EVER say he wanted a registry of Muslims. That is a complete and utter lie. Some person in the audience at one of his rallies mentioned something of the sort and Trump responded with a vague comment about how we must be tough on radical Islam ("We’re going to have to–we’re going to have to look at a lot of things very closely,” Trump said when presented with the idea. “We’re going to have to look at the mosques. We’re going to have to look very, very carefully.”) He did not ever endorse that idea. And anyway, I am utterly baffled, after we have had a Muslim terror attack in our own state at San Bernardino, why you are so vigorously against limits on new migration (key word NEW, no one who's already a citizen is affected, as has been done many times historically and is Constitutionally allowed. It makes perfect sense. We do not want to have here what Europe has had lately.

2. In that context, which you conveniently "forgot" to include, Trump was talking about illegal immigrants. I.E., people WHO LITERALLY BROKE THE LAW TO ENTER OUR COUNTRY. He said there were also good people (i.e. the ones who are productive and come here LEGALLY) Drugs do come from Mexico, and the illegals do commit a disproportionate amount of crime, see this article: http://townhall.com/columnists/johnhawkins/2015/07/04/trump-is-right-about-mexican-illegals-committing-crimes-n2021225

And he's certainly not far off about the "rapists" thing. See here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/09/12/central-america-migrants-rape_n_5806972.html
And here: http://dailycaller.com/2015/08/05/donald-trump-still-right-about-mexican-rapists/

3. The Asian guy thing was a joke, get over it, they imitate our accents.

4. Trump did n0ot know that reporter was disabled. He made that gesture because the guy pretended he didn't say something that he did and that's what Trump mocked.

5. What you don't seem to understand is that insulting one woman, does not equate to insulting all women.

In short, same regurgitated crap every time. The same pandering of "OMG MULTICULTURALISM!!!1!" is getting so old. I hope Scott Jones kick's Ami's electioneering butt out. MAGA.

The Liberal's in California are going to have their heads spinning the night DONALD J. TRUMP is elected to be our POTUS. I assume the leftist that wrote this article think Saint Killary never did anything wrong either.
