Three Democratic candidates for the Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Trustees and the Cosumnes Community Services District Board were endorsed by the Elk Grove-South County Democratic Party at their monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 13.

The three candidates endorsed were Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Trustees Nancy Chaires-Espinoza and Carmine Forcina who currently represent Areas 6 and 7 respectively. Also being endorsed was Orlando Fuentes who is one of six candidates running for two at-large seats on the Cosumnes Community Services District Board of Directors.

Of the three, only Chaires-Espinoza had a fellow Democrat, Marlon Hill, challenging her for the endorsement. Chaires-Espinoza and Hill are the only two candidates seeking the seat.

In her presentation, Chaires-Espinoza emphasized her two years of experience on the EGUSD Board of Trustees as well as her career, which has been dedicated to education.

"I have spent my entire professional life fighting for opportunities for students," Chaires-Espinoza said. "I've had this lifelong passion and career for education policy."

Chaires-Espinoza received 19 votes to Hill's seven, with one club member abstaining. Voting was limited to the 27 club members in good standing attending the meeting

The other candidates, Forcina and Fuentes, who have no Democratic opponents in their respective races, fell short of receiving unanimous votes. Forcina received 24 votes, two were cast for no endorsement and one abstention while Fuentes received 26 votes with one club member abstaining.
