As it has been in every election cycle since 2010, the contest for the district that includes Elk Grove is expected to be one of the most expensive and closest Congressional races in the country. In each of the last three election cycles, the outcome was not determined until weeks after the election was held.

Not surprisingly, the NRCC takes aim at Jones' opponent Dr. Ami Bera and his father Babulal Bera's illegal fundraising activities on behalf of his son through 2012. The elder Bera admitted to illegally funneling about $260,000 to son's 2010 and 2012 campaigns.

In their ad titled "Dirty Money," the NRRC attempts to tie Bera with his father's activities. The elder Bera was sentenced to one year in Federal Prison for his activities.

Speaking in clipped sentences, the announcer in the commercial says "His campaign investigated for a money laundering scandal."

Although the NRCC has and will continue to bludgeon Bera with his father's activities, an investigation by the U.S. Attorney's office and the FBI cleared the second term Congressman of any wrongdoing associated with his father's case.

In mid-September, the Bera campaign released an equally scathing commercial attacking Jones' claiming he sexually harassed female deputy sheriffs'. As with this NRCC attack on Bera, those charges were allegations.

With a little over five weeks to the election, we can be sure these ads and others repackaging these allegations will fill the airwaves.
