3 Mobile Surveillance Cameras to Be Purchased, Deployed by Elk Grove Police

As part of routine city business during their Wednesday, February 28 meeting, the Elk Grove City Council will approve the purchase of three additional mobile police surveillance cameras. The item will be part of the consent calendar.

According to the staff report for the transaction, the City Council directed the Elk Grove Police Department to initiate the purchase during the July 12, 2017, regular meeting. As part of the acquisition, a request for proposal received three respondents deemed to be qualified.

The $89,959 contract was awarded to Sirchie Acquistion Company, LLC, of Medford, New Jersey, who was one of three bidders. One of the bidders, Elk Grove-based Emergency Vehicle Outfitters, was given a five-percent local preference handicap but had a higher bid at $100,055. 

The three units will be mounted on trailers, with telescoping towers and are solar powered. Typically, the police have placed the cameras in areas such as shopping center parking lots where there have numerous reported thefts.

Additionally, the police department has on occasion placed the surveillance units in residential neighborhoods to monitor suspected illegal activities. Last year a camera trailer was set in an East Franklin after police fielded numerous and ongoing complaints about particular residences.
