Elk Grove News Minute - Now is the time to plan for growing homelessness in Elk Grove

August 4, 2018 |

In the last year, Elk Grove has experienced a growth in its homeless population. It seems the population of in-need people has quite grown right before our very eyes.

I do not think there is an argument about the city's growing population of homeless individuals. Your suggestion to plan ahead of time will fall onto deaf ears.

Because the homeless do not vote, much less give money to the elected officials puts them at the very bottom of the list of priorities for the city council members. Even though the five pretend to care about their plight, they will give lip service and only act when the developers push them in that direction to sell their dwellings.

Although it is early in the election cycle, not a word has been spoken about this issue. Not surprisingly, the candidates will never broach this as there is nothing in it for their campaigns'.

Regardless, this is a problem that is not going away, and unfortunately, the city council does not address this situation. Ignoring the problem will not make it go away. Mr. Detrick said as much during one of the hearings earlier this year when he questioned a city staff member.

Take me out to the ball game....

1. Do the homeless vote? Strike 1

2. Do the homeless patronize local businesses? Strike 2

3. Are many of the homeless vets? Ball 1

4. Are many of the homeless in need of mental care? Ball 2

5. Other than grant money they receive, is the city prepared to spend its own general fund money on the homeless? STRIKE 3, YOU'RE OUT!!

Game over folks! See ya next time when Grover takes on the Chick-fil-A cow in a 12-round heavyweight bout, live at the Ghost Mall (limited seating available).

I'm DJ Blutarsky, saying good day and remember, Trix are for kids and rooftops are for paying customers only.
