Shoplifting suspect grabs throat of Elk Grove Police officer, accomplice evades apprehension



A shoplifting suspect was taken in custody into after she allegedly grabbed the throat of an Elk Grove Police officers.

Just before 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10 police were dispatched to the Buy Buy Baby store on Laguna Boulevard regarding two suspected shoplifters. When police arrived, one of the suspects had fled, while officers contacted Toni Jefferson, 39, of San Francisco.  

Upon contact, Jefferson reportedly resisted and grabbed an officer by the throat. Officers overcame the resistance and placed Jefferson under arrest. 

A search of her purse led to the discovery of stolen merchandise. Jefferson was booked into the county jail and has been released on bail.
