District 4 Councilmember Nguyen to host Sunday morning meeting on Elk Grove's affordable housing

A recent hot topic on social media has grown to such an extent that one Elk Grove City Councilmember has scheduled a meeting to address constituent concerns.

The meeting, which will be hosted by Councilmember Stephanie Nguyen, will address concerns from her constituents in District 4 about reported plans for affordable housing along Bruceville Road. The topic has resulted in widespread speculation on social media by many residents that Nguyen represents.

The meeting will be held on Sunday, December 8, at Elk Grove City Hall between 10 and 11:30 a.m. Presenting information on the sites will be housing and community service manager Sarah Bontrager, who oversees the affordable housing and homelessness in Elk Grove.

District 4, which is primarily on the city's south side in the 95757 zip code, is home to the city's newly established District56 facility, civic center, and the majority of the city's new housing stock. In addition to being home to the city's newer housing and shopping facilities, it also has some of the most expensive housing units according to information compiled by Zillow.

For Nguyen, the meeting is one of the first political tests for city councilmembers since last month's switch to by-district representation. The placement of affordable housing, always a political hot potato will test the strength of Nguyen's relations with her three allies on the city council - Steve Detrick, Pat Hume, and Darren Suen - on whether or not they will be willing to absorb affordable and homelessness housing units in the districts they represent.
