Even though he's leaving office, Elk Grove City Councilmember Steve Detrick still raised $15,000

Even though he formally announced late last year that he would not seek a fourth term, Elk Grove City Councilmember Steve Detrick continued raising campaign funds.

In his California Form 460 disclosure filed with the Elk Grove City Clerk's office on January 6, Detrick reported campaign contributions of $15,000 for the six months ending December 31. Detrick is the District 3 representative.

According to the filing, the $15,000 came from five contributors. Detrick received two donations of $5,000 from Willdan and developer Chrysanthy Demos; $2,500 from home builder Taylor Morrison; $2,000 from developer John Papagiannouplus; and $500 from attorney Stanley Van Vleck.

Detrick ended the period with $14,521. Expenses of $2,491 were recorded. 

Interestingly, contributions from Willdan, who is the city's largest outside contractor, have become a point of criticism for a defendant in the city's lawsuit over cost overruns for the District56. That defendant, Big B Construction, and supporters have suggested during city council meetings public comments that Willdan, whom one city employee has documented is responsible for the faulty designs that caused the cost overruns, has been protected from city council scrutiny. 

Unlike recent reporting periods, Detrick did not make any political contributions to fellow council members or others running for elected office. In the first six months of 2019 Detrick received a $5,000 contribution from city council colleague Darren Suen who received $5,000 from Detrick during his 2018 bid to unseat Mayor Steve Ly.
