Lunar Festival in Elk Grove Canceled, Novel Coronavirus cited



Citing the risk of the spread of the Novel Coronavirus, the City of Elk Grove has announced it's Lunar Celebration has been canceled.

The first annual event at the city's newly opened District56 facility was scheduled for the evening of Friday, January 31. In the statement released late this afternoon, the city's Diversity and Inclusion committee said they "are following the lead of similar events in Sacramento and other U.S. metropolitan cities" in canceling the event. 

The virus, which has reportedly started in China, has led to the death of approximately 100 people there. There have been five cased reported in the U.S. one of which is in California.

The U.S. State Department has issued an advisory against travel to the Hubei Provence.
