Pedestrian assaulted on Elk Grove Blvd., suspect held on $1 million bail



A man who allegedly assaulted and attempted to rob a pedestrian is being held on a $1 million bail at the Sacramento County Jail.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, Dierdrick Cortez Burnett, 44, of Elk Grove approached his victim who was walking on the 4700 block of Elk Grove Blvd. and asked for money. When the victim said they did not have any money, Burnell allegedly punched the victim in the face and fled the area.

Responding Elk Grove Police officers located Burnett and when they attempted detention, he resisted. After overcoming the resistance, Burnett was arrested and booked into the county jail.

Burnett is charged with attempted robbery and resisting arrest. Arraignment is on Thursday, July 16.
