Carl Bloetscher III easily won his reelection bid to the Grosse Ile, Mich. Board of Trustees during the Republican primary election on Tuesday.

First elected to the Board of Trustees in 2016, Bloetscher ran on a platform of fiscal responsibility. During his campaign, Bloetscher noted in 2016 the Township had experienced deficits and dealt with them by combining positions, elimination of programs in the recreation department that could not be financially justified, and elimination of overtime.

"All of those resulted in a capital fund that rose from $7,000 in 2016 to a capital fund now in excess of $100,000," Bloetscher said.

Additionally, Grosse Ile has changed public employee retirement contributions. The township now has a tiered retirement system for new employees.

"The savings on that will be enormous over the course of their 30-year careers," Bloetscher said.

The contest attracted eight candidates for four positions. Also winning seats on the board were Michael Jurecki, Joseph Porcarelli, and Jamison Yager.

Ed. note: In the interest of full disclosure, Bloetscher is a 50-year-plus friend who I attended junior high, high school, and college with while residing in Michigan. DG
