Alerted by late-night noise, Elk Grove Police catch catalytic converter theft suspect after brief vehicle pursuit

A Sacramento man is in custody at the county jail after being arrested on suspicion of stealing catalytic converters.

According to Elk Grove Police, a resident called for service after hearing what sounded like welding noises in the early morning hours of Wednesday, November 25, near Whitelock Parkway and Lousada Drive. Responding officers located a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

After a brief vehicle pursuit, police detained Achien Saephan, 38, of Sacramento. A search of Saephan's vehicle led to the discovery of seven catalytic converters and burglary tools.

Saephan is held on $50,000 bail and will be arraigned on Tuesday, December 1.
