According to tallies released yesterday by Sacramento County Voters Registration and Elections, Tony Perez will earn his third term on the Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Trustees.

With over 102,000 votes cast, Perez leads challenger Regina Banks by a 60,686 to 42,132 margin, or 60-percent of the total votes counted. There are approximately 30,000 uncounted votes and it is mathematically unlikely Banks can overcome the deficit.

Perez, first elected to the school board's Area 1 seat in 2012 along with fellow Trustee Carmine Forcina and Elk Grove Mayor Steve Ly. During his two terms Perez has had confrontational relations with his fellow trustees but easily beat Banks who had the backing of several local Democratic Party clubs.

In the other school board trustee race for the Area 3 seat, Sean Yang has maintained his lead over Bobby Roy and Victor Wilson, who did not actively campaign. Yang leads with 44-percent and 45,266 votes to Roy's 37-percent with 37,955 votes of 100,757 ballots counted.

Perez and Yang were supported by Ly who lost his reelection bid for a third term to Bobbie Singh-Allen who is currently a Trustee with the Elk Grove Unified Shool District. With her mayoral victory, Singh-Allen will vacate her seat on the EGUSD Board of Trustees which is expected to be filled by appointment for an aproximately two year term leading to the 2022 elections.
