With the excess heat warming from the National Weather Service, a cooling center opened this afternoon in Elk Grove. The center is open to residents lacking shelter or adequate air conditioning.
The cooling center is operated at the Wackford Community Center at 9041 Bruceville Road. The center is operating from noon until 8 p.m and is sponsored by the city of Elk Grove and the Cosumnes Community Services District.
Along with the resources from Elk Grove and the CCSD, Elk Grove HART (Homeless Assistance Resource Team) will have volunteers on hand and has donated a host of supplies. Among the volunteers at the center is HART's Debbie Schoeneshoer who discussed the organization's services and their role at the cooling center.
See video for more information on Elk Grove HART and messages from Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and CCSD Director Rod Brewer. More information about the cooling center is available here.
