Ashby, Guerra, Jones lead fundraising race for 2022 State Senate District 6 election

Two of the three candidates vying to replace Dr. Richard Pan as California State Senator for District 6 have raised comparable campaign funds while a third outpaced his opponents for the 2022 race.

According to California 460 reports filed with the California Secretary of State, Sacramento City Council members Angelique Ashby and Eric Guerra have raised $180,236 and $208,247 respectively, while former California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones has secured $244,290 for their state senate campaigns for the six month period ending June 30. Ashby represents District 1 and Guerra District 6 while Jones has also served in the California State Assembly and Sacramento City Council.

All three are the major candidates are seeking to replace fellow Democrat Dr. Richard Pan who will be termed out in 2022.

Among Ashby's political supporters are Pan who contributed $5,100; former Sacramento Mayor Heather Fargo, $100; SMUD Board Director Rosanna Herber, $1,000; and California Assemblymember Jim Cooper, $4,900.

Politicians contributing to Guerra included former California State Treasurer Phil Angelides, $1,000; California Assemblymember David Chiu, $1,000; SMUD Board Director Gregg Fishman, $500; Sacramento City Councilmember Jay Schenirer $250; former Sacramento City Councilmember Steve Hansen, $500; and Elk Grove City Councilmember Darren Suen, $250.  

Jones received donations from SMUD Board Director NancyBoi-Thompson, $250; and SMUD Board Director David Tamayo, $500

State Senate District 9 includes all of Elk Grove, Sacramento, West Sacramento, and portions of unincorporated Sacramento County. District boundaries will be redrawn for the 2022 elections.  

Guerra ended the period with $301,591, Ashby had $309,605, and Jones had $379,144.
