Two people arrested on weapons and drug charges were apprehended after leading Elk Grove Police on a vehicle pursuit.

On the evening of Sunday, October 10, Elk Grove Police attempt to stop a vehicle operated by Steven Tyler Shay, 36, of Rancho Cordova, for a motor code violation. Instead of stopping, Shay allegedly led officers on a high-speed pursuit that ended when he and his occupant, Melinda Hader, 31 of Orangevale, abandoned the vehicle on the 8400 block of Elk Grove-Florin Road.

Officer located both suspects nearby, and after being detained, it was determined that Hader was on probation and had an outstanding arrest warrant. A vehicle search led to discovering a loaded firearm, ammunition, magazines, firearm accessories, tactical body armor, a controlled substance, and other items related to narcotic sales.

Shay remains in custody at the county jail and will be arraigned on Wednesday, October 3. Hader has been released.
