Final County Supervisorial District map adopted by Board of Supervisors

Yesterday the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors adopted new 2022 boundaries for the county's five supervisorial districts.

The most significant changes came to District 5, which includes Elk Grove, Galt, and all of the southern portions of Sacramento County. The fifth district has been represented by Don Nottoli since 1994.

While there were minor adjustments to District 1,2, 3, and 4, given most of the county's population growth has been in Elk Grove, Galt, and southern portions of the county, District 5 saw its boundaries contract but it remains the largest geographic district.

The changes came in the northern expanse of the current boundaries. A portion of Rancho Cordova was moved to District 3, represented by Supervisor Rich Desmond, who was elected in 2020. With population growth south of Folsom, that area is being shifted into District 4, represented by Supervisor Sue Frost.

One of the significant supervisorial races in 2022 will be the contest to replace Nottoli, who has decided against reelection. The two declared candidates are Republican Elk Grove District 2 City Councilmember Pat Hume and Democrat Cosumnes Community Services District Director Jaclyn Moreno.

With last year's election of Rich Desmond, the current composition of the board is three Democrats -Nottoli, District 1 Supervisor Phil Serna, and District 2 Supervisor Patrick Kennedy, and Republicans Desmond and Frost. With Nottoli's departure, each party is vying for the bragging rights of a majority of the board.

In addition to District 5, District 1 and 2 will also be on the June primary ballot. If only two District 5 candidates appear on the June primary ballot, the winning candidate will be determined at that time.
