Independent committee in District 5 Sacramento County Board of Supervisors race receives large cash infusion

In a sign of the importance labor unions have placed on one race for the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors District 5 race, an independent expenditure committee received a significant cash infusion yesterday.

According to a disclosure made today, the Service Employees International Union Local 1021 Candidate PAC Small Contributor Committee donated $50,000 to Working Families for Jaclyn Moreno for Sacramento County Supervisor 2022, sponsored by labor unions. The SEIU made two earlier donations to the committee totaling $41,914.

Although the supervisors' seats are non-partisan, Moreno is running as a Democrat and considered one of three candidates in the campaign to replace Don Nottoli. The other candidates are former Elk Grove Mayor Steve Ly, who was formerly a Democrat but is now a decline to state, and Republican Elk Grove City Councilmember Pat Hume.

Labor unions and the Democratic Party have made this race a top priority in Sacramento County. If Hume wins, the Democrats will no longer have a three-vote majority on the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors.
