On Wednesday, August 17th, the City of Elk Grove held a special city council meeting and workshop on the proposed relocation of the Sacramento Zoo to Elk Grove.

The session lasted about two hours, which included about an hour of workshop activities.

Presentations were offered by Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh Allen, city manager Jason Behrmann, and Jason Hill of SHR Studios, who is developing conceptual plans.

The workshop acted as a wish list for participants who voiced ideas for the proposed zoo in south Elk Grove. Some of the ideas included underground parking, an aquarium, and various animals to exhibit.

Notably, there was no discussion of how the relocation and construction costs of the proposed zoo would be financed. Coincidentally, Elk Grove is pursuing a $23 million tax hike on this November's ballot.
