District 2 Elk Grove City Council candidate Felipe Martin’s first mailer arrives
The first mailer for Elk Grove City Council District 2 candidate Felipe Martin has arrived in recent days for voters. Martin is one of three candidates vying to replace Pat Hume, who is running for the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors.
Martin, who lacks the name recognition of three-term Cosumnes Community Services District Director Rod Brewer, one of the two other candidates competing for the District 2 seat, has sent a four-page glossy mailer. The piece touts the endorsement from Democratic California Assemblymember and Sacramento County Sheriff-elect Jim Cooper.
Although the city council race is officially non-partisan, Martin has self-identified as a Democrat. Brewer is also a Democrat and the third candidate, Michelle Kile, is a Republican endorsed by the Sacramento County Republican Party.
Martin highlights campaign talking points in the mailer, including job creation and public safety. In addition to Cooper, former Republican Elk Grove City Councilmembers Steve Detrick and Sophia Scherman have offered Martin their support.

Martin is the wrong choice here folks. A vote for him, is a vote for the status quo and current establishment. If you don't believe me, just look for yourself and see who endorsed him! The status quo has! Another obvious reason not to choose Martin is that he represents developer's interests. He owns a building company for pete's sake. I have to believe that voters in this town are A) really happy with the way the City is being run and the direction the City is headed because they keep re-electing the same people or B) Voters are really clueless and take these phony mailers at their face value.
Martin is simply a new name and face spewing the same old talking points as those before him and those currently in office. I view these pathetic endorsements as a warning sign that nothing will change. Expect more of the same!
Well said. Absolutely true.
