At this morning's Sacramento County Board of Supervisors meeting, several residents in an unincorporated area of the county urged the annexation of a park in Sacramento city limits.

The park in question is in the city's northeast area and geographically is a panhandle. Del Paso Park is in the city limits, but the surrounding residential neighborhoods are in the unincorporated area (see map below).

Among the concerns voiced was the need for more maintenance and response from Sacramento City Police to address problems.

Among several speakers urging the county to approach the city to relinquish the park was former Congressman Doug Ose. The former three-term representative said he understood why the city did not sufficiently maintain the park.

"The city, respectfully, this is an observation, not a judgment, but the city has not even done a deminimiss amount of maintenance on that park since we moved in," Ose said. "They have a $120 million backlog in the city park system today on parks that are surrounded by the city."

Ose added there are no city residents within two miles of the park. The nearby residents are in County District 3, and the park is in County District 1.

The comments by Ose and other residents were made during non-agenda items, so the supervisors did not discuss the concerns.

Ose's entire commentary can be viewed in the videos below.
