Parent claims students at EGUSD's Pleasant Grove High School have limited restroom access

During the Tuesday night Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Trustees meeting, one parent claimed students do not have full access to restrooms. The comments were from a parent who identified as Hiedi during public comment on non-agenda items.

According to her remarks, Heidi said students at Pleasant Grove High School often have access to only one restroom during instructional hours. She claimed she reported the matter last year and has not received any follow-up information from the school district or district Trustee Beth Albiani.

Heidi claimed denying access to student restrooms has forced students to leave campus during class time because the facilities are crowded.

"There are literally kids checking out of school to go home and poop," Heidi said. "If you don't believe me, ask the administrators, ask the students. They're checking out to go home to poop because they can't poop at school."

The EGUSD public affairs office responded to the claims with the following statement:

Based on last year’s enrollment and data compiled by the EGUSD Facilities team, Pleasant Grove High School is deficient in boys’ toilets by 4, but otherwise in compliance. EGUSD high schools do close restrooms during the day when they are in need of repair, temporary maintenance, etc. EGUSD leadership is following up with Pleasant Grove High School to put a supervision and service schedule in place for their restrooms.

Ms. Heidi also commented on the increasing practice of elected officials posing for selfies for the sole purpose of posting on their social media feeds.

"Although some of you may have visited P G H S to take a selfie for social media, have any of you visited these schools to ensure bathrooms are open and functional," she said.
