The Wilton Rancheria announced today they have purchased 20 acres of land directly adjacent to their Sky River Casino site in south Elk Grove.
"Today, as we embark on this historic land purchase, we honor not only our past, but also the future. In acquiring this land, we sow the seeds of prosperity for seven generations to come," Jesus Tarango, Wilton Rancheria Chairman, said. "Our vision is rooted in a legacy of stewardship, ensuring that our descendants inherit a world richer in culture, tradition, and opportunity."
Plans for the 20 acres were not detailed in today's press release. When Sky River was first proposed, it included plans for a 400-plus room hotel, but when the facility opened in August 2022, it did not include the hotel facility.
Las Vegas-based Boyd Gaming provided financing and is responsible for ongoing operations for the gaming facility. The Wilton Rancheria took ownership of the site, formerly the abandoned and uncompleted Elk Grove Promenade shopping center.
Responding to the purchase, Elk Grove city manager Jason Behrmann expressed optimism about the casino's implied expansion prospects.
"The City looks forward to working collaboratively with Wilton Rancheria on any future plans for the property and to continuing the strong partnership we have built," Behrmann said.
Sky River is the only federally recognized casino in Sacramento County. The parcel is north of the casino site on Stockton Boulevard within the Lent Ranch Marketplace Special Planning Area in the city of Elk Grove and is zoned for commercial and retail use.
