Talk is cheap and voters easily forget. Mayor Bobbie and her crew are not about to tell Granite Bay to start building a certain percentage of their new homes as affordable. If they did, they would be thrown off those swivel leather chairs so fast, you would think you were watching the Tilt-O-Whirl at the State Fair!
The power Madame Mayor Singh-Allen and the city council members have is a derivative of the money from developers, labor unions and other various contributors. The labor unions may not care what they are building as long as members are working and paying dues.
As noted above, however, even with the recent political contribution reforms, the money from developers will become more relevant. Notwithstanding marching marching orders from developers, Elk Grove and other suburban communities that fear "others" infiltrating their leafy neighborhoods will only build starter homes if the state forces them to do so.
