Due to the forecasted rain, in coordination with the Sacramento County Department of Homeless Services and Housing (DHSH), First Step Communities (FSC), a weather respite center will be activated at the Warren E Thornton Youth Center Gym (WETYC) (4000 Branch Center Road, Sacramento, CA 95827) to help unhoused persons get respite from the rain beginning tomorrow, February 29, at 2 p.m. until Monday, March 4, at 9 a.m.
This location can support up to 65 adults (18+). A limited number of pets are welcome, however, they will need to be crated at all times in the center and leashed when taking relief outside. There will be crates provided on location for pet owners that do not have them. Guests will receive blankets and cots for sleeping, have access to showers and receive three meals a day while at the respite center.
The City of Sacramento will also have the Auburn Outreach and Engagement Center (3615 Auburn Boulevard) open for an additional 50 people from February 29, at 2 p.m. until Monday, March 4, at 9:00 a.m.
Regional Transit is providing free rides to weather respite centers. Riders can either show a printed copy or a digital copy of the SacRT Free Ride Warming Centers Flyer from Feb 29 through March 4, 2024 on a device.
Please refer inquiries to call 2-1-1 or 211sacramento.org for all the information on dates, times and locations of respite centers. The County will continue to monitor the forecasted weather to determine the need for extensions of this activation. As
with past activations, FSC is taking donations to help support people staying in respite. The greatest needs are sweat pants/shirts (all sizes both men and women), underwear (all sizes both men and women), and incontinence supplies. Donations can be dropped off directly to the respite center at WETYC (4000 Branch Center Road) between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
