During the May 22, 2024, Elk Grove City Council meeting, a replacement for Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen was selected after she quit the Sacramento Homeless Policy Council (SHPC).

During the discussion of who should replace her, Singh-Allen said the quarterly meetings, generally held on Fridays via Zoom, were challenging to fit into her schedule. At first, Singh-Allen urged Councilmember Darren Suen to be her replacement.

Suen told Singh-Allen he had Friday meetings with a subcommittee of the Sacramento Area Council of Governments and could not replace her. The mayor then asked if the city's alternate, Vice Mayor Rod Brewer, would be interested, but he hesitated.

Ultimately, Councilmember Sergio Robles volunteered to be the replacement representing Elk Grove. Brewer will remain the alternate.

The SHPC is part of the regional Sacramento Steps Forward (SSF) which "is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that partners with local, state, and federal agencies to accomplish our shared goal of ending homelessness." The elected officials' roster for the SHPC board can be seen below.

Although meeting minutes are not available as they are not covered by the Brown Act, it does not appear Singh-Allen attended the March 2024 or September 2023 meetings. Information that might indicate officials attending the December 2023 meeting is not available.

The next meeting is on Friday, June 21. Robles will represent Elk Grove.

Of course, Mayor Bobbie quit - if it is a Zoom meeting there's no opportunity for her to pose for selfies with bigwigs to post on her Facebook page!
