American Summer Food Festivals - A limited-time Summer series

Americans are more divided today than at any time since the Civil War. But one thing seems to unite people across red and blue states - a good festival centered on a particular food, most typically something geographically associated with an area.

Today, Elk Grove News kicks off a weekly series called American Food Festivals. The series will start today and run through Labor Day.

We will be highlighting single-food festivals nationwide, each offering a unique experience. We are skipping generic food and drink festivals because there are literally thousands of these events nationwide like the Elk Grove's recent brew fest and instead focus on festivals outside of California with a single food associated with a place - think Maine and lobsters.

Information on an upcoming festival will be posted on Saturdays, two or three weeks in advance of the festival. The stories will initially be posted in the current news category at the top of the page and moved to the lifestyle section on Mondays.

We hope readers enjoy this series and are reminded that even in this era of heightened tensions, we can at least agree that food festivals are something Americans can't seem to get enough of.

Check back here later today for our first installment on an upcoming festival in the upper Midwest.
