Illegal fireworks amnesty offered by Elk Grove Police, Cosumnes Fire Department

The Fourth of July is right around the corner with nationwide celebrations, including parades, get-togethers, and fireworks displays. It also means the explosion of illegal fireworks.

Those illegal fireworks have been an annual problem for Elk Grove residents, especially their pets, who have endured the loud explosions. Not surprisingly, responding to the explosions makes July 4th one of the Elk Grove Police Department's busiest days for service calls.

In response, Elk Grove has enacted tougher illegal fireworks violations. The Elk Grove Police Department has also initiated a drone surveillance program to identify violators.

To further curtail illegal activities, Elk Grove Police and the Cosumnes Community Fire Department have announced an illegal fireworks amnesty program. Illegal fireworks can be turned in, no questions asked.

The fireworks can be turned in at Cosumnes Fire Station 71, 8760 Elk Grove Blvd., on Saturday, June 29, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
