Police release information on Elk Grove hotel parking lot murder



This afternoon, Elk Grove Police released information on a Tuesday evening homicide. That incident happened at the Holiday Inn Express on Maritime Drive on the city's west side.

The police department statement said, "Based on the investigation so far, we can share that this was not a random act, and none of the involved parties were staying at the location where the incident occurred."

The male victim, who the county coroner's offices identified as Derrick Michael Walker, 35, of Sacramento, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Witnesses reported hearing an argument before the shooting, and a vehicle was seen leaving the area shortly afterward.

Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.00. Tips can also be sent to EGPD via SMS text message by entering CRIMES (274637) on a cell phone, followed by Tip732 (agency identification number) and the message.
