Candidate intention statement filed for Elk Grove City Council District 1 race

This morning, the Elk Grove City Clerk's office received and posted a statement from a person intending to run for Elk Grove City Council District 1 on its website.

Richard S. Pool filed a California Form 501 Candidate Intention Statement (see below), which, according to the California Fair Political Practices Commission, must be filed for every state or local office except "candidates for county central committee that do not raise or spend $2,000 or more in a calendar year."

The form indicates Pool's intent to raise campaign contributions. The city clerk's office has not posted Pool's nomination papers, although that webpage is usually updated at the close of each business day.

Pool will challenge incumbent Darren Suen, the current city council's longest-tenured member. Suen was a vacancy appointment in 2015 and won seats in 2016 and 2020.
