Coral Blossom opposition blooms- 'It's homeless housing in your neighborhood' in Elk Grove

One of the aftershocks of the fair housing lawsuit against Elk Grove was the relocation of a controversial supportive housing project. The original project, the Oak Rose supportive housing apartments in Old Town, was moved to Elk Grove-Florin Road after Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen succumbed to pressure from a handful of opponents.
Instead of approving the project after California Attorney General Rob Bonta took legal action against Singh-Allen and her city council's July 2022 project rejection, the city paid $10 million in taxpayer money for legal fees and sweeteners for the developer to move it from Old Town-Historic Downtown Elk Grove to Elk Grove's northern border at 8484 Elk Grove-Florin Road.
Not surprisingly, opposition from nearby residents and businesses to the relocated project, now called Coral Blossom, has coalesced. While many opponents have appeared at city council meetings, a group is now actively opposing the Coral Blossom project.
While the group has not named itself, they are organizing an email campaign to barrage Singh-Allen and formed a WhatsApp group to "stay connected and updated on this protest movement.
The flyer displayed below was found today at the Island Pacific store directly adjacent to the Coral Blossom project. When asked about the flyer, the non-management cashier said the project was a homeless shelter, and Island Pacific's ownership supports the opposition group.
Interestingly, the state's lawsuit against Elk Grove will be heard at Sacramento Superior Court in the coming days. Information about that hearing is available here.
The next city council meeting is on Wednesday, July 24. There could be a large showing of Coral Blossom opponents at that meeting, applying pressure on Singh-Allen and her four councilmen.
