Spease draws papers for Elk Grove City Council reelection; Clock winding down for would-be challengers of the 3 Ss

As of July 18. Elk Grove District 3 City Councilmember Kevin Spease has drawn nomination papers with the Elk Grove City Clerk. Filing was open to incumbents and challengers on Monday, July 15.

Spease, the only Republican on the five-member city council, is seeking his second term representing District 3. Before securing the District 3 seat in 2020, Spease unsuccessfully ran for Elk Grove Mayor in 2016.

Among Spease's supporters is Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen, who contributed $1,000 to his campaign. In less than four years, Singh-Allen has built a formidable campaign fund and accompanying political machine that has far-reaching influence in Elk Grove politics.

Singh-Allen and District 1 Elk Grove City Councilmember Darren Suen, seeking his third term, filed their nomination paper on July 15. As of July 19, no challengers have drawn nomination papers.

If no challengers draw nomination papers by 5 p.m. on Friday, August 9, the three Ss, Singh-Allen, Spease, and Suen, will appear on the ballot unopposed.
