Regardless if a challenger follows through, Elk Grove District 1 City Council member builds hefty campaign fund

By the end of business today, Elk Grove District 1 voters will know whether or not the incumbent city council member will have a challenger. Even if he does have a challenger, incumbent Darren Suen will have a hefty campaign fund to run his campaign.

According to financial disclosures filed with the Elk Grove City Clerk, for the six months ending June 30, Suen raised $20,794 in campaign contributions. With that effort, Suen has $144,911 at his disposal.
Among Suen's significant contributions are the following:
  • Cynthia Cuellar, CEO Your Home Assistant - $1,000
  • Fujiya Restaurant (non-monetary) - $3,434
  • JAMS Equity Partners - $1,000
  • Jonathan Lam - $1,000
  • Peter Lee, Executive Director, Covered California - $1,000
  • Kevin Phan, Caymos LLC  - $2,600
  • Ahn Sacedo, attorney Phoong Law - $5,000
  • Cheng Zheng, CEO Little Turtle LLC - $1,000
  • Supervisor Pat Hume - $250
One person, Richard Pool, has filed a candidate intention statement for District 1, but no further documentation has been recorded. If Pool does not have his necessary paperwork filed by 5 p.m. today with the Elk Grove City Clerk, he will not be on the November ballot.
