Time for Elk Grove economic development director Darrell Doan, Mayor Singh-Allen to take their thumbs off the scale

While Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and three of her four city councilmen were celebrating the opening of a new store - whose future prospects are dim - the city experienced some significant losses.

Yesterday, the Sacramento Business Journal reported the closing of one national chain restaurant in Elk Grove and the imminent closing of another.

The Business Journal reported that Macaroni Grill on Laguna Boulevard recently closed. A little further down Laguna Boulevard, Outback Steakhouse will soon cease operations.

Both chains were undoubtedly victims of changing consumer tastes. It is worth noting that in the hospitality industry, what is popular now will certainly change - it is just a matter of time.

Today, the Sacramento Bee reported the Tiitled Mash Brewery closed operations after eight years. Unlike the national chains, the brewery was locally owned and operated.

Meanwhile, under the direction of economic development director Darrell Doan and Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen, the city seems to relish picking winners and losers, especially among local operators, as it promoted Old Town-Historic Downtown Elk Grove. The city has given massive cash incentives to Slo and Low, and they continuously promote it on their social media feeds.

It is unfortunate breweries like Tilted Mash and Dreaming Dog breweries before it ceased operations. Opening a business is fraught with risk, and start-ups have no guarantees.

One can't help but wonder, have you ever seen the city promote Tilted Mash on its social media? It's a stark reminder that the city shows favoritism, caring less about certain businesses while actively promoting others.

It's time for Darrell Doan and Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen to take their thumbs off the scale!
